NativeOne Student Outreach
According to Founder Don Lyons, NativeOne has been “formed to collaborate with Tribes towards achieving greater participation in the financial services industry while promoting the economic advancement of Native American Tribes, their members and communities.”
These purposes are multi-faceted and innovative for Native Nations and Peoples who have been historically disenfranchised in American society, especially in the financial industry and have fostered the creation of intergenerational trauma and downtrodden communities for most, if not all of the indigenous peoples of North America.
Effective change can be made to assuage these issues, however, they cannot be accomplished without organized and passionate people and organizations dedicated to the creation of stable, self-sufficient and capable communities and individuals. NativeOne contributes to these efforts through the creation of positive outreach to Native Communities and organizations to raise awareness and interest for Native people in the financial industry. These goals can be achieved and the cross cultural impact will be immeasurable given the vast underrepresentation of Natives in the financial world. This initiative is best accomplished through active and continuous outreach to Native communities, specifically through youth outreach in schools, youth programs and community centers, whereby creating direct communication between NativeOne and the most invaluable resource of Indian Country: Native youth. NativeOne, consequently, has formed strategic alliances with some of the best resources in the financial industry.
How Can This Be Accomplished?
Essentially, NativeOne can turn existing Tribal portfolio expenses (fees and commissions) into educational funding for Native youth. All Tribes and Tribal Enterprises have regular costs related to financing, refinancing, insurance, money management and economic development. These financial business areas alone funnel out millions of dollars in fees and commissions – all paid to non-Native companies.
By directing financial business to NativeOne we can create a perpetual reinvestment in Indian Country by giving back a portion of these fees and commissions to create internships and educational funds for tribes working with NativeOne in any or all of these financial categories. Armed with hands-on experience and a continued source of support from NativeOne, knowledgeable tribal members can return home and spread financial knowledge within their communities whereby creating direct access to the financial industry through a tribal financial services operation.
